Ayitha Ezhuthu is a 1996 Indian Tamil drama film directed by K. Balachander, written by Jeyamohan and produced by K. T. Kunjumon, it stars Kamal Haasan, Gouthami and Pooja Batra in the lead roles while was simultaneously being made with Hindi-version starring Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role which was released under the same title of "Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya" on 15 August 1996. The soundtrack album and background score were composed by A. R. Rahman with lyrics penned by Vaali, while cinematography was handled by Ravi Yadav.. The film was premiered at the International Film Festival of India in 1996 and was also screened at the Berlin International Film Festival and won the Silver Bear for Best Director. The film's plot revolves around a dark-complexioned, tomboyish girl (Gouthami) and her attempt to get a fair-complexioned boy (Kamal) to fall in love with her. The film was averagely received by the critics, with particular praise directed towards Gouthami's performance. The soundtrack album and background score were composed by A. R. Rahman received widespread critical acclaim, while the lyrics penned by Vaali were also well received. Kamal Haasan plays a dual role in this film. In one, he plays the kind school teacher where his character is a little bit funny and humorous, but in the next part of the film Kamal veers towards dark side as a lover boy. This movie also has a very talented child artist who was then known as Nithiin which is now one of the leading hero in TV serial chandramukhi.
The music was composed by A. R. Rahman and lyrics by Vaali.

The film was simultaneously shot with Hindi-version "Ayitha Ezhuthu". Kamal Haasan played the role of Pooja Batra's lover in both versions of the film. K. Balachander had initially planned to direct both the versions but later gave up his directorial duties for Hindi version due to time constraints. The Hindi version was released on 15 August 1996 under same title as the original Tamil version "Ayitha Ezhuthu" and saw a release in Telugu as "Suryavamsam".
The film was shot at Chennai and Thanjavur The film was one of the last films to be shot at the now defunct Vijaya Vauhini Studios.
